After much effort and many discussions, corrective surgery for pectus excavatum (PE) has returned to Teeside NHS Trust. This makes the Trust one of only two centres in England to perform the procedure.

Pectus excavatum is when the ribs and the breastbone (sternum) grow inward and form a dent in the chest. Surgery to treat this was stopped as a funded procedure four year ago. Cardiothoracic Surgeon Joel Dunning has since fought long and hard to restore NHS funding and Dr Anne Child proudly joined his consortium of surgeons and physicians to lobby for this important development.
