Marfan syndrome enters people’s lives in different ways and at different times. It often comes as a shock, but it won’t stop recently diagnosed 10-year-old Ollie from climbing Ben Nevis to shout about his condition and raise awareness for our charity. Read Ollie’s Story & Fundraising Campaign.  He’s one determined young lad (who won’t tidy his bedroom).

Marfan? Never heard of it. That was us in early October 2023. Now please review what it is.

Now consider what that means for kids. Oliver was 9 years old when this started and 10 when diagnosed.

”At least you can now blow bubbles”.

This is what Oliver and I said to each other, weirdly giggling, after his lung surgery in September. His physio - he learned to breathe properly again after his lung collapsed twice consecutively. His secret power - titanium staples in his right lung.

Diagnosed with Marfan syndrome in January 2024, it won’t stop this amazing lad!

As he left hospital he asked to climb Ben Nevis to raise awareness for the charity. So that then means we’ll be doing it as well with him every step of the way in May. Then watch out Snowden later this year in summer. A double header.

Because he’s such an inspiration with the way that he faces Marfan, dad will climb Mount Toubkal in April.

No more rugby or judo for Oliver, but coaching, hiking and football are now on his radar!

Thank you for donating in support of this incredible, amazing and brave young lad. Meet him and you’ll spend time laughing at his jokes.

He’s an inspiration to us all and we love your determination Ollie - even if you don’t tidy your room!

Ollie's parents have proudly said that their son has raised nearly £2k, with a charity night coming up on 23rd March. Prizes include hospitality day at Manchester Utd match with 3 course meal, a signed Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh rugby shirt and other Scotland rugby gear.
