After emergency surgery came a diagnosis that made sense of a lifetime of symptoms. Last year, Alison underwent an aortic root replacement and was subsequently diagnosed with Loeys-Dietz syndrome, an answer that brought clarity to the many signs that had punctuated her full and happy life.

Adapting to her diagnosis, Alison is turning it into optimism. She reflects on how knowing your medical condition can mean your life is yours to live and shape.
