Along with our office move, the Marfan Trust Team has changed and will continue to evolve further. With much sadness, we waived goodbye to our Fundraiser/Administrator Janet Gomes in May 2019. Janet had to leave suddenly due to the serious illness of a close relative. We would like to thank Janet for all her help during her time with us and wish her all the best for the future. Our strategic consultant, Moira Taylor and secretary Annette Rebeiro, kept things ticking over and along with Dr. Child herself, managed the move at the end of September to the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) from St. George’s University. Moira continues to provide fundraising and marketing office-based support to the Trust on a part time basis.

Since the start of October we have welcomed Helen McKean to the team as our new acting Fundraising Administrator. She brings a wealth of experience from the consulting and finance world. Helen has previously been involved with small charities and is thrilled to support the growth and exciting changes in the pipeline for the Marfan Trust. The Trust is currently seeking a Fundraising Manager (click here to apply) to work with the team to propel the Marfan Trust forward and ensure its continued growth as 2020 dawns. Dr. José Aragon Martin continues to lead the Trust’s research and will imminently move the Sonalee Laboratory to its new home in the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Our Medical Director, Dr. Anne Child, remains at the heart of the Marfan Trust and has been instrumental in ensuring that the Trust’s valuable research continues and that we remain dedicated to supporting all those dealing with Marfan syndrome.

We are mindful of the impact that all the changes have been having on the Trust’s capacity to keep in touch with you all. The Marfan Trust is and remains reliant upon you our supporters and fundraisers and we thank you for your donations. It is these which are enabling us to: meet our ongoing and new core costs; to continue our Research Programme and to maintain our help line and other support functions as now the only Marfan Support Organisation in the UK.

Once settled we will once again keep in regular touch with you all. Next year we plan a Supporters Day in London, followed by a return to taking the Trust away to regional centres for support days. Our improving capacity will enhance the way we communicate with you and our promotion of the Charity.

Best Wishes

The Marfan Trust Team
