We said a sad goodbye in January to a colleague who left an indelible mark on our team. Andrew died on 23 January. He had quietly served as a trustee of our charity for over four years, bringing extraordinary wisdom and experience. Drawing on a lifetime of work across the charitable sector, he guided us through our transition from a registered charity to a CIO, with assured knowledge of finance, charity law, governance, constitutional matters, and the careful recording of decisions. His sound judgement will continue to guide us for years to come.
Andrew had no immediate connection to Marfan syndrome, but described himself as a “charity groupie” and was moved to support us through his strong friendship with our supporter, Linda Mead.
In 2023, he stood beside us at a pivotal moment in our development, offering calm, ethical and strategic counsel not only to our charity but to many others over the course of his life.
To honour his legacy, we have established the Andrew Scadding Fellowship, to be awarded annually to support research into poorly understood aspects of care for families living with Marfan syndrome and related conditions.
It was our privilege to know him. He will be sorely missed and forever remembered. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and many friends.
